College Facilities
Somerville provides a range of facilities to support academic work and daily living. This page outlines key student-accessible resources.
The JCR
The physical JCR is a shared social space for members of the JCR, used for relaxation, meetings, and informal gatherings. It’s located below Vaughan and can be booked for meetings here.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are available in most accommodation buildings. You can pay by card/tap-to-pay and prices are currently £2.60 for washing and £1.60 for drying. Clothes horses and irons are located in most laundry rooms as well.
Kitchens
Most accommodation blocks also have kitchens, though the ratio of students to kitchen varies from building to building. Students are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and respecting shared use. For special requirements surrounding kitchen use, reach out to the Student Welfare Lead.
Library
Somerville is lucky to have a library that is opened 24/7 during term time, which is perfect for those late-night essay crises. Because we were a previously a women’s-only college, we have one of the most expansive collections of libraries in Oxford. The library also has three group study rooms, which can be booked here.
Printing
Printing facilities are available through the college and can be accessed online by visiting ppc.some.ox.ac.uk. For more information on printing at Somerville, click here.
Bike Storage
Somerville offers plenty of bike storage throughout college at convenient locations. To register a bike, email []. Note: bikes not registered will be subjected to a bike cull and will be auctioned off.
Music Rooms
Somerville has a whole suite of practice facilities, pianos, and other equipment available for rent. For more information on the guidelines regarding use, please visit the Somerville Music Society’s Handbook (sso required).
