The JCR Committee is composed of elected student representatives responsible for welfare, events, finances, and advocacy within the college. Each member of the committee has a different role, whether it’s organising events, communicating with college, or providing welfare support. Some members of the committee are also considered Executive Officers, which is noted next to their position).
Committee candidates stand for election and are voted in by the JCR in regular meetings throughout the three terms. A full list of the dates of elections can be found on this page and in the Constitution.
Executive Officers
The Executive Officers act as the trustees of the JCR and generally have more demanding roles.

Anish
Vedantham
President
Bio
Hi everyone! I’m Anish (he/him), a second-year PPE student, and I’m the JCR President.
As JCR President, my role is to lead the undergraduate student body and represent your interests within the college. Together the JCR committee organises welfare initiatives and social events – everything from film showings to karaoke nights to our BOPs (big open/organised parties) – while also advocating for issues that matter to students. We work closely with college staff to improve student life, ensure your views are heard, and make Somerville as inclusive, responsive, and enjoyable a place to live and study as possible. I highly encourage you to get involved in some way with the JCR.
A little bit about me beyond the JCR: when I’m not studying or doing JCR things, I’m either running, working on the Somervillian, planning a trip, or spending time in Terrace (our cafe/bar). I’m also a digicam warrior and never go anywhere without taking photos. More generally, I’m always up for good food, a drink, a walk around Oxford, or an excuse to explore somewhere new. Fun fact, I’ve been to basically all of the Bodleian libraries in Oxford!
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. I’m always happy to chat. I’m often around college, whether in Terrace, the library, or just walking around, so feel free to stop me and talk. Or, you’re welcome to email me at anish.vedantham@some.ox.ac.uk.

Hi, I am Ismail (he/him), a second-year Psychology and Linguistics student! As a JCR welfare officer, I am responsible for any welfare concerns that the Somerville undergraduate body may have. I am also responsible for organising our termly Week 5 Welfare Weeks (a week basically of chill, fun and vibes). If you have any questions, concerns or just want a chat, please don’t hesitate to reach out below or at jcr.mwelfare@some.ox.ac.uk!
Teams
Our Entz Teams and Freshers Committee are both elected as a slate.

Entz Team
Bio
The Entz Team organise and host a range of social events throughout the academic year with the purpose of bringing the college together and offering a respite from academic life. The multiple termly BOPs (big organised parties) are the highlight of the Entz calendar and are guaranteed to be a night to remember. We’re friendly faces around college and are always willing to bring the vibes!

Livia Demetriou Erdal
Access & Admissions Officer
Bio
Hi! I’m Livia (she/her), a first-year PPE student and your JCR Access and Admissions Officer for this academic year. As your Access and Admissions Officer, I am excited to ensure a smooth transition into life at Somerville for all students. My responsibilities include organising College Families for incoming students, and helping make Oxford more accessible once here. So always feel free to shoot me an email at livia.demetriouerdal@some.ox.ac.uk if there is anything you think I can help you with! Beyond current Somervillians, my role also involves running Somerville’s annual Access Roadshow to encourage prospective applicants to apply to Oxford (and hopefully Somerville!) in our link areas of Hounslow and Kingston. Having attended Oxford outreach events in my own hometown, I look forward to “giving back” to outreach work and helping demystify Oxford – including showing prospective applicants how fun Oxford can be, and answering any questions they may have.
