Hall
Our hall serves as the primary dining space for students. Meals are available at set times during the day, and you can pay with EPOS or with card (though EPOS prices are discounted). The average price for a meal is currently £4.50. Somerville offers options for all dietary restrictions, including a vegetarian and vegan option for every meal. Hall functions not only as a place to eat, but also as a shared social space. It is common to dine in groups, particularly in the evenings.
Hall Hours:
- 8:00 – 9:00: Breakfast on Weekdays
- 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch on Weekdays
- 10:00 – 12:00 noon: Brunch on Saturday and Sundays
- 18:00 – 19:00: Dinner*
*Note: Hall closes at 18:30 on days where there is a Formal
Formals
Formal Hall is a structured three or four-course dinner held weekly. It is a central part of Oxford college life and operates under specific conventions. It’s a great way to enjoy a fancy meal for a relatively cheap price (around £14).
Formals take place on alternating Tuesday and Fridays during term. Booking is required and places go quickly, so make sure sign up as soon as possible. Booking for formals opens at 18:00 two weeks before formals.
Since we don’t have formals every night like some colleges, everyone at Somerville treats Formal like a special event, making lots of effort to dress well and congregate in Terrace afterwards.
Terrace
Terrace is our café and bar, serving refreshments, such as coffee/tea/hot chocolate, food, such as paninis and cookies, and alcoholic beverages.
Terrace Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9:00 – 23:00
- Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon – 23:00
Note: Terrace sells alcoholic beverages starting at 17:00 on Monday to Friday and from 12 noon onward on Saturdays and Sundays.
